The reason I rate 10 is I'm not allowed to rate any higher. Exceptional. We only stayed for one night but it became the best experience of the whole trip. We were the only guests in that night. Mr. Huge greeted us by the mainroad. We did reserve a dinner but I never expected it was so good! I'm missing the wine and food and the lovely conversation in that night already. The breakfast was great too! Even better than some 5-star hotel in my opinion... Still the best part is Mr. Huge's hospitality. Room was perfect. Facilities were great. Location is perfect! Ohau is indeed a remote place, the house is 200 meters outside the village but just perfect in my opinion. 1 minute walk to the lake. The house does have a touching history. All the best wishes to you and the house Mr.Hugh.

Wonderful stay in fantastic locationAbsolutely everything! One of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in. Great remote location surrounded by amazing scenery. Incredibly quiet. Wonderful hospitality from Hugh and Dwayne - the home cooked dinner and breakfast were amazing. Would be the first place I would book if I ever return to the UK

A highlight of our trip! The accommodation is a dream, as well as the two hosts. Really warm and welcoming, always accommodating and with a joke on your lips. The room is really well furnished and has a very comfortable bed. Attention is paid to many details that make the stay even more beautiful. We had a dinner which is unbelievably delicious. It was the most delicious thing we had in New Zealand. The breakfast is also excellent. At night you have an incredible starry sky. Absolute recommendation.

Amazing and very extraordinary accommodation. You will be staying in a wonderful house, which is greatly decorated and you feel not only like at home, but like you visited a special desirable place, you have always wanted to visit in your dreams. Trust me, your dreams will come true here. The breakfast is delicious. Each room you might be accommodated in is splendid. And you are in a very quite place, surrounded by lake, forrest and a field. There is really nothing you could wish for more than what you get. The hosts deserve a medal for their work and hospitability. Thank you!

The Barn is the most interesting accommodation of our entire Alps 2 Ocean cycling journey. Our stay at The Barn was part of our Alps 2 Ocean cycle journey. We fell in love with The Barn, and everyone and everything in it. We particularly liked pet sheep Russell and Monica and pet cat Lala and pet dog Tay. The food was excellent, the company was charming and we loved exploring the eclectic collection of artefacts.

Everything top notch - a perfect place. Unfortunately we were unable to upload any of our photos.Absolutely everything was superb. We could not fault a thing. Comfy bed, great shower, tranquil, idyllic location, super evening meal with great company, and the hosts made it extra special. We were there only one night but left feeling we had known Hugh and Dwayne for years and we were very sad to leave. This is a truly lovely place, hard to beat and we thoroughly recommend.

Great place to stay for a night to break up the trip and have a fun eveningThe place was beautiful and Hugh was such a great host! The area is a pretty good stop by Mt. Cook and between Christchurch and Queenstown. It is a little off the main road, which makes it especially beautiful and remote feeling, even though you aren't that far from Twizel. The place is gorgeous, decorated with beautiful antiques, but also very comfortable and welcoming. Once you get to the property, you don't want to leave! We just hung out with Hugh and Dwayne the whole evening and they were so friendly and accommodating. We got to play with their sheep and their friendly pets. The room options are quite cute and very comfortable. And we had a great time talking with them all night and wish we could have stayed longer.

A little paradise in “the middle of nowhere”As our host came out to greet us as we exited our car we knew this was b&b experience was going to be special. It turned out to be extra special. Hugh is a charming host, who cannot do enough to make your stay comfortable. It wasn’t long after we had settled in and a glass of wine was offered. We had two evening meals prepared by Hugh which were exceptional. The Barn is situated in a remote, but stunningly beautiful countryside, near two lakes- lake Ohau and the little lake Middleton. We would recommend this b&b to anyone. It is a 13km drive off the main road, but what a scene awaits you as the big lake hoves into view.

Paradise has a name "The Barn at Killin"We liked everything. When we arrived the German flag had been hung up for us as a welcome gift, this made a very positive impression on us. We were warmly welcomed by the host and first got a very good cup of coffee in the finest china. You felt almost like prince and princess. We were also introduced to the other roommates two sheep three cats and a dog. It was like entering and being welcomed into a family. The beds were excellent, couldn't be better. The house and all rooms were very decoratively furnished with great attention to detail. You also thought of the smallest detail with fresh lilies in the room and a small soap at the sink and many towels and a lot of pillows in the bed. In the distance about 50 m is a small lake with a forest, in which you can swim with private access. There are also kayaks from the owner, which you can take and paddle on the lake, there are seats on the lake and you can stay in peace. There is also a whirlpool in which you can dream and look at the mountains and the landlord comes and even brings you fresh water. Also, don't miss to book a dinner this is then together with the two owners and very funny and above all first class just eat the perfect dinner. We were spoiled all around and have never found a hostel so well we here 10 points are not enough here you have to give many more stars And here you can award the highest star category.

The most beautiful meeting of our trip to New Zealand. The welcome from Hugh, our host. The calm of the establishment by the lake. The directions to find the accommodation are impeccable. If you don't think going out for dinner, remember to confirm that you are having dinner. Hugh cooking. The French flag to welcome us.
Jan 2020, Yves, France
Exceptional hospitality from hosts. Awesome dinner and breakfast provided - Please book dinner in advanced to allow host to cater for your needs. Lovely decor, comfy beds, clean throughout and just a really cool place to relax. We loved it and will visit again. The hosts even put up our country flag for us on arrival. Nice thought. Lake Ohau makes for great photos too.

Every inch of the property, setups and decorations. I have not entered a property so tastefully done up for a guest and for such a good pricing. The host, Hugh prepared us a dinner in a setting that is nothing less than a royal deserves. Free wines and in good company. Wish to thank Hugh's Papa and Mama too for sharing the tips on great cooking. Thank you. Really unforgettable experience in such an amazing place with such beautiful people. And need to mention, for those growing up in the cities, this would be a place dark enough to see a full sky of stars. Yes, amazing starry night out of the bedroom's windows.

A highlight of a wonderful trip.Hugh was a genuine gentleman & went out of his way to ensure our stay was perfect. I wish that i planned more time at Ohau but that's a good reason to return. I loved the feeling of staying in a home rather than a hotel. My stay was too short.

We had a lovely time staying at The Barn. Hugh was an excellent host; he made us feel very welcome in his home, gave us great local tips, suggested good walks to do in the area and made a delicious breakfast in the morning. The location is quiet, calm and peaceful. Overall, a delightful place to stay.

The Barn is a wonderful place to stay in a stunning location. Hugh is an exceptional host, and the dinner (and conversation) was great. Very clean, comfortable, and cozy.
Apr 2019, Erin, USA
The location, although people have to realise that the barn is 30 km from Twizel. But who cares. The host is a very lovely person and very good cook. So book a meal at his place. Take your time staying here. At least 2 nights. There is a hot tob and you can travel from here to mount Cook. Great breakfast . 2 bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom. The other two share a bathroom, but they have a balcony. We loved everything.
Apr 2019, Hilda, Netherlands
A little surprise on the trip❤️The accommodation address is located on a small lake near Lake Ohau. The rooms and landscapes are particularly beautiful. You can enjoy a unique view of the lake. The landlord is very enthusiastic, and the breakfast is very delicate. If the weather is good at night, you can see the clear and huge Milky Way on the balcony of the room, making up for the regret that we did not see the Galaxy in Lake Tekapo.
Apr 2019, Pianpian, China
Fantastic host, beautiful location, wonderful foodWe highly recommend The Barn when travelling in this area. The location is picturesque and Hugh was so welcoming, we really felt at home. The dinner and breakfast were the best we had on our entire trip and we will definitely return again. Thank you Hugh for your company and hospitality.

Mar 2019, Robyn, Australia
Hugh and Dwayne are really nice Hosts, you can feel that you are welcome in every minute. They just got german-flagged for our arriving. Hugh asked if we would like to get a dinner at the Barn - the best decision was to say "Yes", it was delicious with some (a lot of) wine and we felt like being home all the time because Hugh, Dwayne and their "fur children" were so open hearted. The rooms are beautiful with a good view and own bathroom. The breakfast is very good - we had no more space for lunch that day. There is the possibility of using the hot spa and Hugh has some great tips on how to spend your time in the region. You should follow the description in the Email to find the barn, it is not that easy and the GPS will not be able to find it. Thank you @ Hugh & Dwayne, it was a pleasure to meet you!
Mar 2019, Mathias & Ronja, Germany
Amazing attention to detail in the home from the luxury sheets and styling of the rooms to the high standard of the breakfast and dinner! Hugh is the perfect host , opening his home up to us. Loved the spa outside too.

Hugh was a spectacular host. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived. Hugh is a great chef and we had both breakfast and dinner there and they were amazing. Went swimming in the lake and enjoyed the great views.
Mar 2019, Wendy, Canada
A hidden gem. Very quiet location near an idyllic lake, nicely decorated house and rooms, with good beds; we had chosen the room with twin beds. We also had dinner prepared by the host himself, very tasty, especially his Pavlova! The breakfast was perfect, a pleasure for stomach and eye. But above all, we appreciated our stay because of our host, Hugh, who made our stay unforgettable.

Everything, but it was our host that made this stay special - he was interested and interesting. Brilliant breakfast. We enjoyed the opportunity led by TAY (ancillary staff 4 legged variety) to walk by the lake. Excellent views of Mt Cook glowing at sunset from nearby. Thank you Hugh.

I really like this hotel and it is the favorite of all the hotels in New Zealand. The male host was very polite and careful, not only hanged the Chinese flag, but also invited us to drink beer and liquor. The various antiques in the living room are very refined, each room is different in style and full of art. Breakfast is very ceremonial, it is also very hard to do, very delicious
Feb 2019, Ying, China
The welcome. The tranquillity. Attention to detail. The location was New Zealand as we hoped it would be. Hugh was a wonderful host.

Hugh is good at cooking, gardening, sewing, etc., and it lights up all life skills. We feel the warmth of home here. The breakfast was delicious, and the extra dinner was great. Although it was full, we always had another stomach to hold such a delicious dessert. After breakfast, the puppy guide Tay led us to the lake for a walk, so that a quiet and comfortable life is a pleasure. Be sure to stay a few more days next time!

From the moment Hugh welcomed us until the time we left as guests in his house we were made to feel truly at home. The biggest compliment we can give the host is the fact we felt like we had the biggest bargain on our trip so far. Fantastic food, great company and a bottle of bubbles in the evening plus a fantastic breakfast to set us on our way. Keep up the great work Hugh, if in NZ we will definitely be back.
Dec 2018, Michael, United Kingdom
It was just an amazing stay for us although it only was for 1 night, we regret not staying longer. It’s a bit off the road but once you are there you don’t want to leave. Hugh is just amazing. We arrived late without having dinner before so he just cooked some lovely Pasta for us while kids were playing with cats and dog. If the weather would have been better we just could have a swim in the nice lake just a few meters ahead. The Barn is just lovely, so many details in furniture and decoration. Awesome. We truely loved our stay. Thank you Hugh making us feeling home in NZ

Hugh was the perfect host. The house was very Christmassy which was fantastic. Breakfast each day was excellent and we were made very welcome by his family. If we are ever back in NZ we will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

Highly recommended, a very special place. The Barn has everything you could want for the perfect getaway, it is so comfortable that you will not want to leave so make sure you book for more than one night! Thanks Hugh.

The place is beautiful, the facilities are very beautiful. And far the best of all is Hugh, the owner and host, who makes the stay charming. For a supplement we prepared a wonderful dinner and the breakfast included in the accommodation is luxurious.
Dec 2018, Ana Maria, Chile
I have stayed in several Airbnb accommodations and Hugh's place is by far the best experience I've ever had. Hugh went out of his way to give us a Downtown Abbey experience. Tea and breakfast was server on classic tableware. The property is right beside Lake Ohau and we had wonderful views of the lake from the balcony. It was a wet day when we arrived, there was a warm and welcoming fire to get us comfortable. I missed my pets back home and so the family cat and dog were great company. We also had the pleasure of meeting Hugh's father who is such a sweetheart. I will be recommending Hugh's place to all my friends who are thinking of visiting New Zealand.
Nov 2018, Thankam, Thailand
Hugh was very welcoming and friendly and an excellent cook. His eggs Benedict breakfast was delicious. We took the option of paying extra for dinner and we were not disappointed. The 2 course meal with wine was excellent and great value. We loved the stylish bedrooms also.
Nov 2018, Elizabeth, Australia
Our host, Hugh, was so charming, helpful, welcoming. It was cold and rainy and we were welcomed like old friends to a cozy fire and delicious wine. Hugh, and later, his mum and dad engaged us in lively conversation and gave us so much interesting history of the area and of NZ itself. The property is a little off the “beaten path”, but so worth the drive. Breakfast was a gourmet delight, served on heirloom china and crystal. We only wished we could have lingered longer! Thanks, Hugh!

Our host Hugh was the perfect host. We chose to have supper with Hugh and this was a good idea as “The Barn” is some distance from Twizel. Hugh is not a good cook; but a great chef. Same for breakfast at this B&B. The living area was ours to relax and enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. Felt like home!

The whole atmosphere of The Barn is terrific. Hugh is the ultimate host.... a very funny man and a great cook. The decor and furnishing are spot on... the rooms are spotless with very comfy beds and an abundance of pillows to choose from!!! The view lying in our bed up to the ranges was awesome. Bathroom facilities we super clean and had style.... the little small things. The fire was going and the wine flowed... we had a great night... it would be hard not to!! The dining table is huge and we shared the company of not only our host but other travellers who very quickly became our friends all having a great time. We enjoyed are stay immensely and wished we had booked for longer. Thank you Hugh. Sandro and Penny

Fabulous, you have to stop here.... but allow more than one night. Yes, its a bit off the highway but it is worth making time to wallow in the special environment. It was an honour to share the family's secret holiday place, absorb the mountains and enjoy the glorious furnishings that Hugh has created. Magic!

We highly recommend staying here! It was a beautiful location and the drive in past the lake was amazing. The rooms were superb and Hugh made us feel so at home and welcome. I also recommend you take him up on his dinner offer. Breakfast and dinner at his place were some of the best meals we had on our trip. Great host and enjoyed visiting with him!

Hugh’s hospitality goes above and beyond. The home is even more beautiful in person. It was better than staying at a 5 star hotel. We had dinner and breakfast with Hugh, and it beat any meal I’ve had in NZ! Hugh really puts in thoughtful touches and uses all the best china. Words cannot describe the great conversation and feelings from staying here. Next time I will be staying longer!

This was honestly the best bnb that we have ever stayed at! Hugh really put the B back in B N B and cooked us the most magnificent breaky! On top of this he made us the most wonderful dinner with wine and beer! Enjoying a meal with Hugh and his wonderful family was like eating with friends! The room was lovely and I honestly couldn’t think of one thing I would change! If I could rate him 100/10 for hospitality I would! Second to none! Thanks Hugh for the wonderful stay and we will definitely be back!

Fantastic place and a wonderful host. Hugh and his family are wonderful and really welcome you into their home. This was our first ever B&B experience and we came with a 2yr old and a 4yr old. Hugh was wonderful with our kids and made us all feel so welcome. As a first time B&B experience it was much better than we expected. We would definitely go back again if we were passing through. Thoroughly recommend!

This is really a proper B&B. Hugh is a great host. Amazing style. Comfiest bed with lots of pillows and a great view. We had dinner with Hugh and it was yummy. He gives lots of recommendations and great stories. We will be recommending here to all our friends and family who visit the South Island.

Family of 5 travelling from Australia and couldn't have had a better experience with Hugh at the Barn! The serenity of the location and proximity to Ohau ski field, the food, the hot tub, and ultra comfy accomodation made this the highlight of our 2 week trip around NZ's South Island. Definitely going back, and hope to stay even longer than our 4 nights! Host Hugh was amazing.July 2018, Luke, Australia
Amazing location, breakfast, evening meal, sleep and host (Hugh). The stay was absolutely amazing with amazing views, stunning out of this world location, looking at stars from the spa and balcony and the walk around the propery. Access was great along with how peaceful the whole area is. To top it all the host (Hugh) was just an amazing person making our stay all the more great with fabulous breakfast and evening meal. Never had a better nights sleep. There is nothing to fault, YOU SHOULD BE CHARGING MORE.July 2018, Michael, United Kingdom
Set the bar for a B&B for us! From the moment we arrived we were welcomed warmly into the house, which was cosy, comfortable and just where you want to be at the end of a long day. The food was deliciously home cooked and hearty, the beds were nice and comfortable and Hugh was very accomodating. July 2018, Ian, New Zealand

An idyllic setting off the beaten path in the forest, in a haven of peace in the heart of nature, facing a lake. The owner is very freindly and has a lot of humour. He tells many anecdotes of his life and has the gift to put you directly at ease. B&B decorated with taste, rooms offering noble and very cozy raw materials. The owner served us a typical New Zealand feast for dinner. The breakfast was also royal and was a treat. In short, faultless in every way. Here, tranquility and authenticity are the key words. What generosity and what a wonderful human adventure. We will never forget Hugh, By far the best B&B of my life.May 2018, Nicolas, Belgium
We spent 2 nights at Hugh's place and we absolutely love everything about it. Hugh is an excellent host and great cook. He was always ready to help, chatted with us often and even showed us around the beautiful Lake Ohau area one morning. Complimentary breakfast was provided every day, which was amazing. He also prepared a lavish dinner for us one night which was definitely worth trying if you wish to get a taste of traditional New Zealand cuisine. Bedrooms are clean and well decorated, and the company of the lovely dog and cat just made the stay even more enjoyable. Hughs place is amongst the few B&Bs that I would want to go back to, and I would recommend his place to everyone looking for warm hospitality, local experience and a close encouter with nature.May 2018, Cathy, Macau
Absolutely fabulous stay! We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at The Barn and were greeted by Hugh. The Barn is a little slice of paradise and the stay is made complete by Hugh's attention to detail in everything he does. Great food, great company and amazing scenery. Definitley worth the trek off the beaten path.May 2018, Roland, New Zealand
Wonderful host, home, food and drive over too! Wow. We didn't know what to expect, but Hugh was amazing in every way. The rooms are impeccably decorated, there are plush guest robes and slippers, and we were even greeted with an amazing array of home-baked (but restaurant quality) cookies, tea & coffee, and basically stuffed full with incredible culinary delights. THe rooms look like they are straight out of HGTV. Basically if you want to be waited on hand and foot and wonder how Hugh manages to do it all while being the greatest and wittiest conversationalist ever, stay here!April 2018, Niven, USA
Beautiful homestay at a special place. I loved the location, away from the touristy route, and with the beautiful lake and mountains surrounding it. The family that runs the place are lovely, warm and hospitable and you feel as if you are staying with family friends. The room was beautifully decorated and I loved waking up to the beautiful scenery. Hugh and his mom cooked delicious meals and added lots of personal touches (My Country flag to welcome me, a jar of wild flowers in my room etc) to make my stay extra special. Their dog & cat were also lovely to get to know. April 2018, Ahila, Sri Lanka

The Barn exceeded all expecations, a magical place. The Barn at Killin is simply a magical place and an experience in South Island hospitality not to be missed. Hugh, Rae & Chris are perfect hosts and did everything to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Lake Ohau is beautiful and a good place to explore the region with restaurants and shops close by in Twizel. The bed was very comfortable with lake views and the breakfasts were exceptional. You need to order dinner as well, as Hugh's cooking is fantastic.March 2016, Robyn, New Zealand

Amazing cozy stay with lovely hosts and superb breakfast. The host Hugh, and his parents were lovely, really warm and kind welcome to the property. We shared some food with them and received a bottle of wine in exchange, was really a fun and interesting evening. After our dinner we had a dip in the awesome spa pool, it was still too early for watching the stars, but that's amazing as well from the "Royal Room" - where we stayed. Super comfy bed, very clean bathroom and well selected, high quality shower supplies. Breakfast in the morning was amazing - huge plate with eggs benedict, homemade meatballs, yoghurt, fruits, tea & coffee. We really enjoyed our time at this beautiful lake with super nice hosts. Will definitely come back if we stay in the area again. December 2017, Nina, China

Not a bad word to be said about The Barn. Not a bad word to be said about its location. Not a bad word to be said about Hugh and his family. Not a bad word to be said about the accommodation (the private or the shared). Not a bad word to be said about the breakfasts or the optional dinner. Not bad to be 11,000 miles from our own home but to feel so thoroughly at home! thank you Hugh. We will be back.October 2017, James, United KingdomIt's definitely the best B&B I've ever stayed!!! Hugh, Rae, Chris are super nice and we had a lovely chat that night. Puppy Tay & cat Lala are so adorable. The house is like a museum and our rooms are warm and sweet. Staying at Hugh's place was a highlight of the trip. The food was incredible (we had dinner as well), location is gorgeous, and Hugh and his family are an absolute delight.October 2017, Jenna, Seattle, USA
Wish we could've stayed longer! During our short stay in Twizel, we booked accommodation at The Barn at Killin hosted by Hugh and his parents. The stay there was unexpectedly amazing as we thought we were about to get lost in a Blair witch project due to the location. But the location turned out to be a perfect remote area that was peaceful and a great getaway from the hustle and bustle. With the most breathtaking views right from his backyard, pictures just don't do them justice. And if you're lucky to get a clear night like we did, the sky is flooded with stars. Hugh's hospitality was indescribable because you wouldn't be greeted by a host, but a friend who has a passion for making people feel welcome. We felt like we were coming home after a long trip away and it was a shame we only stayed one night. I personally would recommend booking Hugh's lovely home to anyone visting NZ.September 2017, Sarah, Australia
Hugh went above and beyond during our stay. I can't recomment staying here enough! He catered very kindly (& deliciously) to our vegan needs, and we even joined his family for a glass of wine. The home is very warm, clean and comfortable. We had a lot of space to ourselves. Thank you!September 2017, Courtney, Washington, USA
Wonderful overnight trip, would thoroughly recommend to anyone! Hugh has an absolute eye for details, this comes through in all aspects of your enchanting stay. 10/10 for the Ohau Hilton.August, 2017, Samantha, Wellington, New Zealand

If you are looking for a real Kiwi experience, here's the place. I travel with whole family and here we feel like living with our own family. I love everything about this place. The dinner is so cool & worth the $.August 2017, Karn, Thailand
Hugh and his family were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were warm and comfortable and Hugh's breakfast cooking skills are unmatched. Hugh even went to the effort of pre heating the spa for us so we could relax under the stars. Highly recommended.July 2017, Danielle, Australia
Staying at The Barn was an absolute pleasure! The guest rooms feel like a small luxury hotel! Hugh's attention to detail in decorating, soft furnishings, bathroom accessories made this family home an outstanding Airbnb experience. The delicious home cooked breakfast and dinner were certainly worth the extra few dollars, especially when staying in a remote area. A glass of bubbles in the hot tub on the deck, after a day's skiing only added to the luxurious feel. Hugh is an amazing host, lively, chatty and so welcoming! We will return! July 2017, Duncan & Sheena, Queenstown, New Zealand
Hugh's accomodation made my travel perfect! It's the best!We really appreciated the quality of the breakfast you made. I will come visit again next year.July 2017, Hong, South Korea
We loved our stay here. Hugh & his family welcomed us with open arms to their lovely warm house. It felt like staying with family. The breakfasts were amazing and a great start to the day. We loved getting all the history and local knowledge of the stunning area.July 2017, Ana, New Zealand
The Barn is a fantastic place to stay. Hugh is an excellent host and buying the dinner option was an absolute treat for us. Our kids (6, 11 & 15) loved the stay and playing with the puppy. We also enjoyed the spa in the clear frosty weather and the trip to Ohau ski field is a short drive away. July 2017, Hilmar, Iceland
This place is good for the soul! So peaceful and a very special environment. We were working so it was only one night before we had to be on our way. The breakfast was just what we needed and the house was full of the smell of baking! Hugh is a true host and all of our needs were met. We had a view of the lake with the full moon from our room, a beautiful room with stunning decor. We certainly would stay again and were sad it wasn't longer.July 2017, Graham & Debs, New Zealand
There are 3 bedrooms on the upper floor with a shared bathroom. Bed is comfy and room is cosy. We have privacy upstairs and share the living/dining area downstairs with Hugh & his parents. They are jovial family and we have lots of laughter interacting with them. The living area has a fire place to keep us warm. For breakfast we had salmon and poached egg on spinach with rye bread. Well presented with silver service (Just like Ritz-Carlton!). The Barn is secluded via private road and away from the neighbourhood. A few metres away is private lakefront access. You can dip in the spa pool and enjoy the mountain views. Hugh's house has a puppy and cat and kids will love it. Nearest town Twizel is approx 20 mins. Hugh is able to prepare dinner, highly recommended to those that want to experience the B&B concept.July 2017, Salimah, Singapore
We feel so lucky that we got to stay at the Barn with Hugh, his lovely parents and the cutest little puppy Tay. We absolutely loved it there and didn't want to leave! Hugh went above and beyond to make us feel at home. The Barn is gorgeous, the food fantastic, and the company unbeatable...We will be back!July 2017, Jessica, New Zealand
Staying at and with Hugh and his family was a secluded, unique and wonderful time. The Barn is hidden on their private property with access to Lake Middleton (Ohau). It is the perfect spot to have a secluded and quiet holiday. The rooms are cosy with either lake or mountain views! You can gaze the stars at night from your bed and watch the sunrise over the lake. The provided hot spa pool on the deck is also a nice spot to relax after a day full of walking in the Aoraki/Mt. Cook national park or after your ski trip. Since we are visitors in the winter season, it is to mention that your fire place was one of the greatest things in your house. It kept us warm all along! As experienced Airbnb users we can say that this stay was perfect and outstanding! We couldn't have asked for anything more. Hugh made us a lovely breakfast and we highly recommend to take the dinner offer. You not just get a kiwi culture dinner, but also it is quite tricky to get food around that area. We enjoyed the company with his parents so much and got to hear a lot about the area history and recommendation of places to visit. You can reach Tekapo, Pukaki, Mt. Cook, Omarama and a lot more places within an hour or 1.30 hr. Hugh, thank you so much, we had a perfect time. You set high standards for our future expectations to a Airbnb place/home! We couldn't have chosen any better. We miss you already and hopefully we will get a chance to be your guests again.June 2017, Melanie, Germany
Hugh, we loved to stay with you. we had a great time, enjoyed your company and the lovely meals. We hope everything will turn out perfect for your business, and that you can live your dream! You were born to do that!June 2017, Andrew, New Zealand

Hugh is a wonderful host. It is a beautiful setting, very lovely and excellent setting and beautiful house. Hugh is doing a great job, made our stay absolutely terrific and we will go back in the future. I can only recommend Hugh's place to stay!May 2017, Liza, New Zealand
My Nephew had his wedding at The Barn in April 2016! Was a wonderful venue, the location, food and atmosphere was amazing. I highly recommend The Barn for a break away, either by yourself or with friends and family. Hugh & the Spiers family are amazing hosts.April 2017, Charlie, Australia
Wonderful stay. My goodness! Hugh and his parents are such wonderful hosts! You will be welcomed like a member of the family, in a warm and comfy home, eating local and delicious meals and enjoy beautiful landscapes. Hope we will be back soon.July 2018, Caroline, Australia
Amazing time - hospitality at its finest. Thanks to Hugh and his family. Your hospitality is amazing, we had a perfect time, felt right at home from the start. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Une chambre d'hotes avec une accueil formidable, une cusine delicieuse, un hote adorable.June 2018, Florence, Reunion
We only hope that we could have stayed there for more nights.October 2017, Wenwen, China
Great stay! Hugh is a wonderful host and did everything to make us feel comfortable. Nice house, located in a perfect remote area. For an additional cost you can arrange absolutely perfect dinner. October 2017, Tymofii, Ukraine
We were extremely happy to stay at The Barn and could not have wished for better accommodation in the area. The bed was very comfortable with fantastic views and the breakfast were exceptional. Hugh was a perfect host and did everything he could to make us feel welcome and comfortable.October 2017, Peter, Australia
The Barn at Killin is a beautiful pace to stay in a lesser known but, in our opinion a must see destination on the South Island. We cannot recommend staying there enough. Lake Ohau is just fantastic.August 2017, Ruben, United Kingdom
Excellent place. Clean & well furnished. Friendly hosts. Tasty breakfast. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to stay in Ohau.August 2017, Andrew, Colorado, USA
What a special place to stay! Hugh and his family are very welcoming and entertaining and the food is AMAZING. Beautiful home with tasteful decoration, sumptuous beds, calm peaceful surroundings, and lots of laughter.August 2017, Deborah, Auckland, New Zealand
